Sign Up For a REWARDS CARD wherever you shop!!

Most retailers have a FREE REWARDS PROGRAM. They will give you a card, which you should present at each purchase.

These REWARDS CARDS will get you free products, money back, additional coupons, and/or store gift certificates.

*Put your REWARDS CARDS and COUPONS/CERTIFICATES with the rest of your coupons.*

ADDITIONAL TIP:

When you get the certificates like those pictured above... DO NOT allow yourself to fall into the trap of spending money on unnecessary items.

If you need something- that's one thing... but if you don't...

DO NOT LET THE CERTIFICATE BE WASTED EITHER!!

Use the certificate to get something FREE!

Ex: I recently received the Dick's Certificate above, yet did not NEED anything or plan on purchasing anything there. Therefore, I went to the store with the mindset that I would pick something out for less than or around $10. I was going to just get some free socks; although I looked around the clearance racks and found 2 Boston Bruins T-shirts for under $5 each. I picked up a T-shirt for my husband and his brother and didn't even take out a penny from my wallet!

SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!

Many stores will make price adjustments within the days/weeks following your purchase.
Also, many stores will accept coupons on products you already purchased.

Here are a few examples:

• You get a Kohl's coupon for 20% off. Bring the coupon in with your recent receipt. They will adjust the prices- giving you a credit on your card or cold hard cash!!
• Shaw's and Stop&Shop (and possibly your local supermarker) will accept coupons on previous purchases with the presentation of your receipt.
• Bed Bath and Beyond will accept coupons after purchases. Bring in your receipt. Give them your coupon. Get cash back!

Be PLEASANT and PATIENT when you are at the register, or when asking sales associates/customer service any questions!!

You'll be surprised what a smile and kind words will get you.

Only get rude and pushy if it's an absolute MUST.*

Remember, you may be a face they will see often.

Trust me, they will remember you if you get mouthy! Pick your battles!

Check the EXPIRATION DATE

• Make the most of your purchase and look for the one that has the latest expiration date!

• Sometimes, an item is on sale because it is about to (or sometimes even has) expire.

Today's Tip 2/2/10

Watch the screen as items are being rung in.

This way you can be sure that everything is being rung in at the correct price. If you can't see, ask the associate to let you know what certain items rang in as. You can also say, "This was / these were (BOGO, 50% off, etc.) right?"

MANY, MANY times, I find that items ring in incorrectly. Noticing them right away can save you time and money!
